Manipur club move to put park on heritage list

The newly established Unesco Club, Manipur, will soon launch a campaign for inclusion of Keibul Lamjao wildlife sanctuary – home to the world’s most threatened deer species, sangai, – and other well known places in the state in the list of world’s heritage sites.

The club was founded yesterday with Imphal’s youth activist Karnajit Kangujam as its director. The club has been constituted under the Confederation of Unesco Clubs and Associations of India.

It has a five-member executive committee and is the second such club in the Northeast after one in Assam.
